There’s a tear in your eye,<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>And I’m wondering why,<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>For it never should be there at all.<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>With such power in your smile,<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>Sure a stone you’d beguile,<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>So there’s never a teardrop should fall.<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>When your sweet lilting laughter’s<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>Like some fairy song,<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>And your eyes twinkle bright as can be,<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>You should laugh all the while<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>And all other times smile,<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>And now, smile a smile for me.<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>When Irish eyes are smiling<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>Sure it’s like a morn in spring.<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>In the lilt of Irish laughter,<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>You can hear the angels sing.<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>When Irish hearts are happy,<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>All the world seems bright and gay. <\/span>\u23ce<\/span>And when Irish eyes are smiling,<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>Sure, they steal your heart away.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Advanced: The Story of St. Patrick<\/b><\/p>\n

https:\/\/www.dummies.com\/religion\/christianity\/catholicism\/who-is-st-patrick-and-why-do-we-celebrate-st-patricks-day\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Patrick was born in AD 387 just south of Hadrian\u2019s Wall in Britain, which was part of the Roman Empire (that\u2019s right, he wasn\u2019t Irish!). He was captured by Irish pagans in his early teens and taken to Ireland, where he was enslaved for six years. During that time, he grew to like the spirit of the Irish. When he escaped and returned to his family, he vowed to one day return to Ireland.<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>He studied at monasteries on the continent and was eventually ordained a priest and then a bishop. Pope Celestine I commissioned Patrick to be an apostle to Ireland.<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>Patrick initially encountered many hardships among the pagans, particularly the druids. They weren\u2019t willing to give up their power over the old religion and feared Patrick and Christianity. Although the ruling monarch, King Laoghaire, didn\u2019t convert to Christianity, many of his family members did, and little by little, the old religion began to fade. Patrick traveled from town to town, tearing down idols and temples and establishing the Catholic Church. By AD 444, the primatial see and first cathedral of Ireland were built in Armagh.<\/span>\u23ce<\/span>He baptized, confirmed, and ordained priests, and he erected schools and monasteries. Thousands came into the Church under his direction. He accomplished all these activities in less than 30 years, during which time the whole island nation of Ireland was converted. Toward the end of his life, he wrote <\/span>Confessions,<\/span><\/i> in which he gives a record of his life and mission. He died on March 17, 461, of natural causes. He is buried in Downpatrick in present-day Northern Ireland.<\/span><\/p>\n
