Typing Tests

Word processing, keyboarding, data entry, and typing are names for the primary method by which people enter data into a computer. When applying for a typing job, an office position, a data entry or clerical job, or any position that requires keyboarding skills, you will be given a typing test. Typing tests are given by sitting down at a typewriter or a computer keyboard with a text to copy, and being told by a testing monitor when to start and when to stop typing. When the typing test is completed, it is then corrected for accuracy, the words are counted and a test score is calculated. Typing test scores consists of a "words per minute" or wpm calculation, and sometimes a calculation which reflects accuracy as a percentage. The wpm or words per minute score is typically a corrected score, calculated by deducting one word from the total wpm score for each error. The percentage accuracy score is calculated by taking the total of words typed and dividing that into the total errors counted in the type text. The result is multiplied by 100, and then that result is subtracted from 100 to produce a percentage. The percentage is a measure of typing or data entry accuracy. Both scores of the typing test are combined to provide an employer with an assessment of a job applicant's qualifications for typing jobs. If you can type fast and accurately enough on your typing test, you should have no problem getting a typing job in almost any English speaking country in the world.
